Sustainability in Design Masterclass

How can designers across disciplines embed sustainability throughout the creative value chain?

About the Project

I was invited by Misk Art Institute, part of the Misk Foundation, to design and deliver a bespoke 5-day masterclass aimed at equipping creative professionals with practical strategies to integrate sustainability into the design value chain, from sourcing materials to managing waste. Tailored to the unique perspectives of architects, interior and product designers, jewelry makers, and graphic designers, the program combined case studies, interactive learning, and one-on-one mentorship sessions, ensuring the insights were both impactful and adaptable to their diverse disciplines.

The Impact

Over 30 participants actively engaged with key sustainability frameworks, with a focus on circular economy and recycling cultural heritage, all framed within the context of local market dynamics. Through hands-on learning, they explored how these principles could be adapted to their disciplines, from architecture to graphic design. Participants applied their learnings to supervised projects, fostering innovative approaches that emphasized sustainable practices and cultural relevance.
